Thank you to those who attended our March REMC meeting! We introduced Madeline Murray-Clasen and Tiana Smith from Green Mountain Power. They provided a presentation about Green Mountain Power’s “Resiliency Zones” and discussed grid resiliency and microgrid projects. Please see below for the meeting recording and presentation slides.
Our next meeting will be held this summer. Please feel free to contact Malia with any suggestions or requests for next meeting’s agenda. We can host workshops, training exercises, and roundtable discussions and we can tailor these to our region’s needs and interests.

Thank you to those who attended our December Regional Emergency Management meeting! We introduced Scott Whittier, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS). Scott gave a presentation about NWS’ role in emergency planning/response and recent changes in Vermont’s climate. He also shared NWS tools and information including weather forecasts, weather advisories, extreme weather safety, and local hazard mitigation planning.
October 2022: Emergency Management Roundtable and REMC Kick-Off Meeting
The Mount Ascutney Regional Commission (MARC) will be hosting a quarterly Emergency Management Roundtable meeting on Monday, Oct 24th from 12pm-1pm at MARC office in Ascutney (virtual option also available).
This will also be our first meeting of the new Regional Emergency Management Commission (REMC).
We will be discussing mutual aid agreements with Vermont Emergency Management, providing on-site technical assistance, and planning for a regional TTX that will include exercising updated and existing agreements. If your community has any mutual aid agreements (formal or informal) in place, please bring any existing documentation and any discussion points or questions you would like to cover. We will also go over and plan for the next few roundtable presentations/discussions.
Please RSVP by email to mcordero@marcvt.org, indicating in-person or virtual attendance.
If you are unable to attend, but have mutual aid or other EM questions, please contact Allison or Malia.
Regional Emergency Management Committee
Regional Emergency Management Committees (REMCs) coordinate emergency planning and preparedness activities to improve their regions’ ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from all disasters.
The Mount Ascutney Regional Commission (MARC) will be managing and facilitating an REMC composed of representatives from each municipality in the region.
Each town appoints two voting members: the first voting member is the Emergency Management Director (EMD), and the second voting member is an emergency services representative.
Representatives from fire departments, emergency medical services, law enforcement, media, transportation, hospitals, the department of health district office, organizations serving vulnerable populations, and any other interested public or private individual or organization, are welcome and encouraged to participate!
The REMC will be conducting all-hazards preparedness planning, coordinating with Vermont Emergency Management (VEM), the State Emergency Response Commission (SERC), and the new Statewide Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). MARC will be providing administrative support to include meeting minutes, grant applications, planning support, and meeting setup. Funding for this is provided through VEM. REMCs have access to competitive grant funding (i.e. Homeland Security, Hazard Mitigation).
The REMC will prepare an annually updated plan that will consist of regional contact information, regional resources, and regional mutual aid agreements. This REMC Plan must be submitted to VEM annually after town meeting day and before June 1st.
